Interesting how writers will say that they will not write aromantic or asexual characters because it is boring despite the fact that romance as a genre is often referred to as boring because it is often written for women and if women like things it is boring?? Interesting how you can make up the excuse that something is boring when it is convenient for you despite the fact that those two ideas are in conflict??
The official air date for season 4 is July 14, 2014

I maintain that “she’s a hero, you see. she’s not like us” is one of the most telling lines about Giles’ characterization in the entire series.
#wow that is so spot on for his character I can’t even#And this is where he continually brushes up against Buffy#She will never condone killing for the greater good#And Giles admires that#but also feels that it is foolish#and that it is his duty to act as this kind of protector for her and for the world#this is where the Watcher comes out in Giles the most I think (0tterpop)
This goes beyond Giles being her Watcher. This is love. Giles loves her like a daughter. He will always do the things that need to be done to protect her. Including getting a little blood on his hands.
I don’t think that he sees it as foolish really? Like everything else imo was 1000% spot on but to me he admires the way that Buffy chooses to live and her moral code but that he still knows that that isn’t the way that the world works, even if it’s the way hers does? Giles is the protector and I think that everything he does comes from a desire to allow buffy to fully embrace her hero arc and never have to compromise herself — and her moral code because that’s so intrinsic to who she is — in the way that she does in, say, season 6 (dead things is a prime example). I agree that it’s a father’s love but I don’t see him as ever finding her ideals foolish — I think he truly wishes that they had a place in this world and that he could share them, too.
